Caroline is the sole link between prisoners and the world outside in Ivory Coast

Caroline Van Hamme has worked in Ivory Coast on behalf of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). Her main duty consisted in visiting prisons.
She tried to improve living conditions in jail by negotiating with the prison director and informing the prisoners about sanitation.

Additionnally, Caroline delivered tracing messages to detainees. These messages were very often the only source informing the prisoners about their families outside. Inversely, prisoners were authorized to send tracing messages to their family. Caroline collected these messages and transferred them to ICRC colleagues. Volunteers of the Ivorian Red Cross ensured delivery to the right address in Ivory Coast.
