Claude, a nineteen year old refugee from eastern Congo

Claude, a nineteen year old refugee of Congolese origin, arrived in Belgium in 2002. As an unaccompanied minor and asylum seeker he got shelter in a Red Cross refugee centre. To his assistants Claude told that he hadn't heard any news from his brothers and sisters since 1998. His father was murdered in 1997. One year later, armed men entered their house and killed his mother as well. Each of the children fled in a different direction. Claude ended up in an orphanage, which soon appeared to be a training camp for child soldiers. Fortunately, the boy managed to escape and found refuge in Belgium. There, Claude asked the Red Cross for help to locate his siblings. After ten months of searching, we finally received news: all his brothers and sisters were alive and well. They are now communicating with each other through Red Cross Messages.
